The release of Pioneer DJ Toraiz SP-16 took place in 2016. The original sampler is the embodiment of popular instruments, as it includes a 16-step sequencer, based on the principle of TR-8 drum machine, a grid of multi-colored 16 pads taken from NI Maschine, and a display that was created by designers inspired with MPC Touch. Even the filter officially granted by Dave Smith was taken from Prophet-6, together with similar knobs and branding.
The sampler has a very fast and smooth workflow. The combination of velocity sensitive pads and a step sequencer makes SP-16 exceptionally easy to play, record and adjust sequences. Most of the main functions, such as browser samples, loading, recording, editing (slice, scale, time-stretch) are available directly via the touch screen, and the surrounding buttons/knobs. A section with a filter from DSI has a basic low-pass (LPF) filter (with cutoff, drive, resonance), and an auxiliary high-pass (HPF).
The digital interface is intuitive enough. Each channel has a corresponding cell on the screen, and for downloading samples, SP-16 is equipped with 8 GB internal memory, where it is also possible to boot from an external USB drive. All samples can be looped, and change their envelopes (attack, hold, release).
There is also a global mixer that offers a deeper level control of the tracks, including changing the "send" settings and assigning individual tracks. In addition, the display shows arrangements, and thanks to "scenes" they can be sequenced to create a whole song.
With regard to the step sequencer, it can automatically duplicate 16 steps to the maximum of 64 (with manual expansion), and it's really convenient. The "Parameter Sequencing" function allows you to automate the data entered in the step sequencer.
