The instrument is a successfully modified ARP Odyssey with MIDI in and USB MIDI introduced, separate headphone and balanced XLR outputs added, and a drive option devised for VCA distortion.
The 37-note keyboard reproduces ARP Odysseys original synthesis circuitry offering classic sounds together with new tones. The filter section used to be the main distinction between the three versions of the original instrument and that’s where you benefit from purchasing the KARP – the new Korg’s keyboard provides you with all 3 filter circuits integrated. The new Odyssey also represents both of the portamento behaviors of Rev1 and Rev2/3 which differ when the transpose function is enabled.
The new model represents a reduced housing of the ARP’s body making 86% of it. Patch cables come together with the unit and allows for amusing sonic tricks which might come in handy.
The instrument is duophonic and allows for two different pitches for two pressed notes. Get the control over pitch modulation as well as pulse width modulation, achieve the sharp overtones with oscillator sync, apply white or pink noise, use some metallic sounds delivered by ring modulation.
The famous three types of low-pass filter selectable in a switch feature different characteristics including 12dB punchy one, 24dB for meaty low tones and the type from Rev 3 ensuring amazing stability when the resonance is increased. The high pass filter follows the low pass type. The filter can be modulated by many sources including sample&hold, LFO, two envelopes. Sample&Hold sounds are created owing to the S/H Mixer with the help of the oscillator or noise generator as a source.
