This mono synthesizer had every chance to become a bestseller. The reason is simple - it is assembled by a well-known Japanese company producing audio-video equipment with the same components that are used in the Prophet-6 which is Dave Smith Instruments top synthesizer. AS-1 became the second in the line of Toraiz along with SP-16 sampler, which was also created in collaboration with the legendary American synth maker (Dave Smith was responsible for the analog filter technology, also taken from Prophet-6).
In fact, AS-1 is an “extracted” from Profit-6 voice enclosed in a compact keyboardless housing. At the same time, the famous low and high pass filters are kept the way they were, there is an envelope processor, a chain of effects and, which is important, a sequencer and an arpeggiator.
Of course, AS-1 is, in some way, a tribute to the fashion of recent years for analog synthesizers and the fight back to competitors - KORG monologue and Novation Bass Station II. On the other hand, AS-1 is an entrance ticket to the world of classical sounds of the famous Prophet at an attractive price. If earlier many of us could only watch the video about Prophet-6 and dream that “the day I will buy it will come”, now this day became 5 times closer – that’s the price difference between Prophet-6 and Pioneer DJ AS-1.
Another variation of the legendary Prophet, a creatively rethought Dave’s keyboard. Modern approach to classic analog architecture, dual effects engine, polyphonic step sequencer, Poly Mod. No trouble with programming, a 6-voice instrument is amazing for...
