The release of the hybrid drum machine Elektron Analog RYTM took place in 2014. Its clue feature is the 8-voice analog core (with digital envelopes, LFO, noise generator), which is often absent in most drum machines today. It has 12 velocity sensitive multi colored backlit touch pads.
Oscillators are hidden under the pads. For example, BD1 (Bass Drum) uses a dual oscillator, optimized for creating various kicks through Classic, Hard and FM modes. SNR, CP, RS also use 2 oscillators. As for the toms, they use only 1 single oscillator for each type.
The built-in sequencer has 64 patterns (traditional 16 steps). All pads have an individual track, and when you simultaneously click on the kick, snare and hat in real time - each part will be recorded on its dedicated track. Thus, all elements, in particular percussion, are managed independently in the sequencer. And in order to correct an unsuccessful record, there is auto-quantization function, which can be set to the master mode, or to an individual track. Besides, the "Parameter-Locking" function has been added to the sequencer allowing you to block the parameter changes in a step sequence.
Comparing to TR-808 and 909, the black drum computer transmits quite authentic sound of "legends" with grainy and crunchy nuances. A set of useful settings opens up an amazing world not just of drums but of various synth sounds. For example, in BD1 you can create basic bass sounds or lead ones. In general, RYTM is really refined in dirty sounding – overdrive effect contributes to it immensely. As a pleasant bonus there’s reverb and delay.
