Nord Lead, the first unit of the first wave of analog modeling synthesizers, set the standard for the industry for a long time ahead. It is a multi-timbral instrument with expandable polyphony (from 4 to 12 voices), capable of emulating the sounds of the best analog synthesizers of previous decades. The synthesizer had all the basic functions that were previously inherent in analog instruments - virtual generators, including LFO, filters, envelopes, and in addition to it a more sophisticated arpeggiator and the unique function of Morph which became its brand feature.
Besides, all the controllers located on the front panel were subjected to MIDI protocol and, therefore, could either control external instruments or receive control signals from them.
When the expansion card is connected, the synthesizer receives 8 additional voices (12 is the total number) and the ability to save 297 user single-voice programs and 300 performances on a PC-Card 128KB with a battery.
Nord Lead attracted the attention of mega-popular artists, including Depeche Mode, The Prodigy, Nine Inch Nails, The Crystal Method, Fatboy Slim, ATB and others.
