System-500 is the result of Roland and Malekko Heavy Industry (known for its synthesizer modules and guitar effects) collaboration. This is the first attempt by Roland to master the Eurorack format. According to the manufacturer this is the classic Roland sound (the legendary modular synthesizers System-700 and System-100m), but with the functionality and reliability of modern instruments.
The "system" consists of 5 modules (VCO-512, VCF-521, ENV / LFO-540, VCA-530, PHASE-572) encased within one housing, the interaction between which is organized with jumper cables (10 cables). Unfortunately System-500 didn’t get the sequencer module of its progenitor (System-100m), but if it’s necessary, the synthesizer can be supplemented with modules offered by other manufacturers.
The body is made of metal with wooden sides, has a sloped rear panel, which allows the instrument to be installed at an angle for greater convenience. The built-in power distributor has standard power connectors for Eurorack (+ 12/-12), external switch-mode power supply. The keyboard for the instrument should have a 1V/octave output.
