The rackmount version of Roland JP-8000 differs in polyphony which was increased from 8 to 10 voices, the number of presets and user program memory were more than doubled, new effects were added - flanger and distortion, voice modifier Voice Modulator for external signal source.

The JP-8080 features an audio input (for the Voice Modulator mentioned above), a large number of controls on the front panel and SmartMedia card support to save user settings.

The instrument has a 6U format.
