Dave Smith and Tom Oberheim joined their concepts to create a loud name on the market. OB-6 is a fusion of familiar yet innovative details which were acclaimed by DSI and Oberheim fans. A 49-key 6-voice analog instrument made the legendary synthmakers divide their spheres of influence and get down to what their individually best at. While Tom was busy with the actual core of the machine Dave Smith went into developing the effects section. Consider SEM circuits, 2 analog oscillators with continuously variable waveshapes, a state-variable filter, analog amplifiers, 2 digital effects engines, a step-sequencer, arpeggiator and a knob-per-function front panel.
OB-6 gives two oscillators and a sub per each of the 6 discrete analog voices. You will like to apply Unison Mode or chord memory. The instrument is based on the famous SEM architecture which is traditionally represented with 2 analog oscillators, a 2-pole multimode filter, ADR envelopes and an LFO. The continuously variable waveshapes allow for a smooth change from sawtooth to variable-pulse waveforms. The famous resonant 2-pole state-variable filter circuit introduced by Oberheim helps to constitute the structure of the OB-6 keyboard featuring high-pass, low-pass, band-pass and notch options.
A 64-step sequencer supporting up to 6 notes per step gives you the opportunity of programing polyphonic sequences. The sequences can be synced to external MIDI clock as well as the full-fledged arpeggiator. The instrument incorporates comprehensive modulation capabilities owing to Dave Smith’s X-Mod feature offering two sources allowing for bi-polar control and five destinations. The filter envelope and osc 2 come as sources while osc 1 frequency/waveshape/pulse-width, filter mode and filter cutoff – as destinations. The effects section includes analog distortion, reverbs, delay, chorus, flanger, phase, and ring modulator.
