The release of the sampler BOSS SP-505 happened in 2002. It is an entry level workstation with the possibility of sampling. Its purpose is to work with one-shot samples and loops. The device has an 8-voice polyphony and 4 MB internal memory, which can contain up to 250 samples located within 16 different banks (4 preset and 12 user). In addition, you can add 128 MB SmartMedia cards. SP-505 works with audio formats WAV and AIFF.
Regarding the fact that the equipment is based on interaction with flash memory, each sample is always available for playback, there is no need to download and wait. The sampler has 64 sounds grouped into: drums, bass, keyboards and synths.
All samples can be manipulated in different ways: when you press the buttons in the Phrase Control section, the graphic LCD shows items for editing start and end points for playback, and Wave Edit allows you to raise the sound level of a specific waveform. Pitch chromatically spreads the sample over 16 lower pads, meanwhile BPM Sync competently adjusts all 16 elements to the same tempo.
The pattern sequencer has 4 tracks with independent quantization adjustment, as well as groove and shuffle. It allows you to create full-fledged music tracks from loops in combination with percussion, bass and lead. The sequencer has a real-time recording opportunity and "microscopic editing" (a step sequencer that changes the sequence during playback).
SP-505 has a set of 26 effects: filter, slicer, reverb, delay, tape echo, chorus, flanger, phaser, tremolo/panning, distortion, overdrive, fuzz, wah-wah, etc. They can be adjusted in real time by knob tweaking.
