reface DX is a keyboard featuring 37 mini synth keys with initial touch the sound engine of which is represented with the FM tone generation. A 4-operator FM synthesizer (there are 12 different algorithms for connecting these operators), multi-touch control surface, an onboard phrase looper allowing you to create overdubs.
The compact unit is based on additive synthesis and packed with built-in multi-effects (VCM Touch Wah, VCM Flanger, VCM Phaser, Chorus, Delay, Reverb, Distortion). Reface DX provides you with 8-note polyphony, 32 memory locations for storing and recalling your patches, onboard stereo speaker system, portability (can be powered with AA batteries allowing for standalone operation), USB host port, aux line input for mobile devices and tablets, and dual line outputs for mixers and audio interfaces.
The device got a continuous feedback which changes the basic sine wave the way the Moog’s continuously variable waveforms behaves. Owing to that feature you can transform the signal from square, through sine, to saw. The sound tweaking is much more intuitive now due to having 4 onscreen parameters.
The built of the keybed is convincing, though being a mini-key unit DX feels solid. The unique Data Entry section supplies you with the set of real time, hands-on control which the DX series predecessors lacked.
