Roland TR-727, released in 1985, acts as a true follower of TR-707. Their interface doesn’t differ, but the main differences are in samples – TR-727 offers the library of Latin percussion.
Ethnic percussion has won its place under the sun in modern dance music, and its application implies happiness and energy. The rhythm machine offers a set of 15 samples a user can apply, such as: bongo, conga, timbal, claves, maracas, quijada, whistles, bells. All of the abovementioned percussion sounds have soft and warm voices, and some of them are especially saturated with crunchy overtones. It should be noted that some of them were used earlier in other models of the TR series, but 707 has its distinctive sound. Moreover, do not steer clear of such specific instruments as whistles and crystal bells.
As much as 707, TR-727 has the same connectors (MIDI IN/Out, Tape Memory/Sync, etc.) and the same intuitive control interface (16 main pads, tempo control, faders with volume control for each percussion, Master volume, etc.). The rhythm machine has a step sequencer that stores up to 64 patterns. In addition to it, the rhythm machine includes a monochrome display owing to which you can see samples independently. The tempo is also displayed here. TR-727 could be found in studios of: Aphex Twin, Freddy Fresh, and Luke Vibert.
