Super JD-990 is a module version of JD-800 though it features some specs not introduced in the keyboard prototype. The module was released in 1993. The instrument offers 24 voice of polyphony and its core is represented with digital sample-based subtractive synthesis. The unit features the same TVF and TVA.
Among the expanded capabilities there can be named quite many. ROM was enlarged and gives 6MB. An 8MB expansion board can be used and JV-80 patch import became available. The oscillator sync function was added as well as 4 extra outputs. Each tone can be panned independently within a program. In JD-990 many modulation options are available: frequency cross-modulation, ring modulation, one destination can be modulated from various sources. LFO section got more waveforms including sine, trapezoid and chaos.
Basic waves got some pitch modulation added for drifting analog character. Tempo sync delay and polyphonic portamento are delivered as well. Multi mode allows for applying all the effects for one patch at once. The structure provides you with 6-part multitimbrality (+ one drum part).
JD-800 is a Roland’s digital synthesizer launched in 1991. The instrument provides 24 voices when one tone is used and reduces the polyphony to 6 notes when 4 tones are active (a patch can include up to 4 tones). The synthesis is based on proprietory...
