Pittsburgh Modular Taiga
900.00 street price

The Pittsburgh Modular Taiga represents a bold evolution in analog synthesis, combining East and West Coast synthesis philosophies into a unique hybrid instrument. This semi-modular synthesizer challenges conventional notions of analog sound through its innovative approach to waveform generation, filtering, and dynamics processing.

At its core, the Taiga is a three-oscillator analog monosynth that transcends traditional boundaries. Each oscillator begins with a sawtooth core but utilizes cascading waveshapers to create what Pittsburgh calls "Seeds" - waveforms that grow toward familiar shapes while offering interesting timbres between traditional waves. The extensive wavefolding capabilities, controlled by prominent yellow knobs, can fold waveforms up to six times, generating extraordinary harmonic complexity.

The instrument's unique character emerges from its Dynamics section, which combines traditional VCA functionality with two low-pass gate modes. This creates organic, plucky responses reminiscent of Buchla-style synthesis while maintaining the familiar control of East Coast designs. The interaction between the PGFilter and Dynamics sections offers remarkable tonal versatility, from smooth subtractive synthesis to woody, percussive textures.

Built in a 60HP desktop format, the Taiga functions as both a standalone synthesizer and a collection of Eurorack modules. Every parameter is patchable through an extensive 60+ point patchbay, making it fully modular while remaining pre-patched for immediate use. The synthesis path flows logically from left to right: oscillators → mixer → filter → dynamics → analog delay.

The Digital Control section provides comprehensive MIDI functionality, including an intuitive arpeggiator, sequencer capabilities, and various modulation sources. While marketed as paraphonic, the instrument achieves two-note polyphony through clever routing rather than true polyphonic architecture.
