Release of DDJ-SZ controller took place in 2014. It is made in the style of the CDJ/DJM line, and in a close up, it has similar functions compared to the previous flagship controller - DDJ-SX. But such details as the improved performance pads and the "Sound Color FX" section make it something more. DDJ-SZ has 2 platters with a traditional central display (from CDJ), as well as knobs for adjusting easy or heavy scrolling. They use a unique conducting technology (unlike CDJ, which in fact had a simple "switch"), creating unbiased sensations when using the platters.
Originally DDJ-SZ was developed for integration with Serato DJ software. DJ controller includes a 4-channel mixer with 3-band equalizers per each, 2 scroll bars, and a custom crossfader. Unlike DDJ-SX, 16 different colored pads were added to DDJ-SZ, which not only makes it easier to recognize what mode is enabled, but also offer the possibility to set their own colors in order to distinguish different types of cue (intro, drop, outro and others).
The modes as "Hot Cue", "Roll", "Slicer" are responsible for a quick transition between fragments, "stuttering", and sample cut. But Hot Cue also hides the Cue Loop (previously featured in DDJ-SP1), which allows you to activate the loop every time you click on the appropriate button.
Continuing to reveal the effects, at the top of the controller you’ll see 4 knobs with Izotope FX, as well as a new section "Sound Color FX", offering a set of 4 effects: a reverb, a phaser, a filter, and a pitch button. Each channel has its own control over the effects. And the latter is called "Oscillator FX". Noise, cymbals, siren, horn were generated.
