When the release of Pioneer DDJ-SX controller took place in 2012, it caused a massive boom among DJs, as it was one of the first full-featured controllers that appeared on the shelves. In 2015, the brand released DDJ-SX2, in which several updates were added. First of all, displays appeared on the platters with cues. The following additions were 3 buttons for "Serato Flip", as well as 16 multi-colored backlit pads. And finally, "Dual Deck" buttons with the choice between channels 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 have been removed, now you can simply switch directly when pressing 1 and 3.

The 4-channel DJ controller has 2 platters, and Pioneer DJ reported that they then had a reduced lag and became more accurate for scratching. It also includes 2 scrollbars and 2 main pitch faders, a 3-band equalizer with LPF/HPF filters per channel, and a crossfader.

The previously mentioned addition of "Serato Flip" with a small section of 3 buttons allows you to record, play and store information directly onto the controller. All described actions can be performed through a computer, but with a "mini section" any manipulations will be performed much faster.

The device has 16 pads with 4 buttons: Hot Cue, Pad FX, Slicer, Sampler for manipulating tracks. Hot Cue and Slicer allow you to cut samples for looping, or "stuttering", while Pad FX offers a set of effects: a phaser, reverb, or gate. Its upper part consists of a scroll bar (from the CDJ series), assignable effects to individual channels, including the reverse and "slip" buttons.
