Pioneer DDJ-SP1, released in 2013, is created as an extra utility for users of mixers and controllers with Serato DJ (in particular with a mixer DJM-900SRT Serato DJ-compatible). It took the most significant effects and section of performance pads from the most popular DDJ-SX. It can’t be managed directly by Serato software, but it includes Serato Video, and the ability to control it.
SP1 offers 8 knobs with effects and 2 rows of 8 pads. Hot Cue and Slicer allow you to instantly jump to any part of the song, cut samples for looping, while Roll creates "stuttering", and Sampler gives the possibility of assigning small segments of samples to 8 pads.
In the central section there are 4 buttons for assigning effects of Serato DJ, the main encoder and 6 buttons form a convenient view of the libraries and the tracks. The "Load Prepare" button sends the track directly to the "Prepare" browser folder, which is the temporary storage for the selected tracks. "Shift + Load Prepare" scrolls certain areas of the browser, such as: files, prepared, and history. Finally, pressing "Shift + Deck" at the same time allows you to scroll through the recording sections, effects, and SP-6 sampler of Serato DJ.
In addition to the mixer and the transport controls, which are adjusted via Serato DJ, SP-1 deck section includes a sufficient number of controls to avoid being distracted during the DJing process. Each of the 2 decks has sync activation buttons, the "Auto Loop" encoder for setting the cycle time and turning it on/off, as well as the "Slip" and "Censor" buttons.
