DX is a lighter, and therefore cheaper, DMX version. It sounds a little bit "thinner" than its older brother.
DX uses the same 8-bit samples DMX does, but they’re decreased in number - 18. The drum machine doesn’t contain voice cards, and all EPROM chips with sounds are located next to the Zilog Z80 processor on the motherboard. It features a 6-voice polyphony, for each voice there is an individual output and micro-tuning.
The built-in sequencer allows you to create sequences in step mode and in real time. The internal memory allows storing up to 50 sequences 100 steps each.
Oberheim DX was used by Apollo 440, Daft Punk, Jimi Tenor, as well as many hip-hop performers.
