4 Voice is a semi-modular analog polyphonic synthesizer, assembled and based on the four SEM modules. Thus, the synthesizer incorporated eight voltage-controlled oscillators (VCO), two per voice, four controlled filters, four VCA and ADS envelope generator.
Each module is configured individually, which can create some inconvenience (it is mildly impossible to quickly change the settings of four modules at the same time having only two hands), but it actually allows creating very complex sounds and chords with unusual sonic flow.
The synthesizer included a dual eight-step sequencer and a mixer module, allowing to set the volume and pan position for each voice.
In 1976 the PSP module was added to the synthesizer. It simplified the control significantly, and allowed saving the settings of the synthesizer in 16 presets.
4 Voice was used in the compositions of 808 State, Chick Corea, Styx, Human League, Pink Floyd, Stevie Wonder.
