Moog Source is a monophonic, monotimbral instrument with an analog subtractive synthesis type. It has 2 oscillators, an LFO, a low pass filter and a storage memory for 16 presets.
The instrument is based on the Z80 microprocessor core. Source was an amusing Minimoog version with flat control panel and the first Moog’s synth allowing for storing patches. VCOs give 3 waveforms, 4-pole analog filter offers keyboard tracking, cutoff frequency, resonance, and envelope setting possibility. LFO and sample&hold are modulation sources. There’s a sequencer onboard.
There was a modified version released by Encore Electronics which implemented MIDI and increased memory.
Source was used by Depeche Mode, New Order (“Blue Monday” track).
