XS series got some improvements comparing to the previous Motif series among which there are a larger color display, 8 faders, up to 8 waveforms per voice, Expanded Articulation, Ethernet support, bigger waveform ROM, direct performance recording to pattern, possibility of 4 simultaneous arpeggios in Performance mode. Yamaha PLG expansion cards could not be installed into Motif XS series. The units shipped with Cubase AI.
Motif XS8 released in 2007 has a 88-note keyboard with Balanced hammer effect key action, features 128 voices of polyphony, 355MB ROM waveforms and the total number of 2670 waves. Memory offers 1024 presets + 65 kits, 384 user ones + 32 kits, and 384 performances.
