The synthesizer incorporates 9 sound engines, up to 2GB of PCM RAM (varies depending on the use of Expansion PCM libraries; 1,129 MB is available when shipped from the factory), KARMA features, the Open Sampling System, the onboard sequencer (16 MIDI tracks + 16 audio tracks). Effects of premium quality can be applied up to 16 simultaneously. Smooth Sound Transition feature allows for seamless tone or mode change while notes are held.
KRONOS X increases SSD (solid state drive) capacity to 62GB making it possible to carry a huge library inside of the keyboard including Kronos sound libraries and Karo sound libraries. Kronos X is packed with Karma technology including Karma wave-sequencing, note mapping and 8 scenes per layer. Drum Tracks are borrowed from M3 and M50 workstations. Open Sampling System allows for using Kronos X to sample an external audio source or resample the actual outcome of Kronos X.
12 Insert effects can be applied to individual or multiple timbres in a combination, or to individual or multiple tracks of the sequencer; there are also 2 Master effects and 2 Total effects. Each of them features 185 effect types including reverb, chorus, delay, guitar amp and cabinet modeling, vocoding and etc., and each effect provides 72 adjustable parameters.
The instrument has a Natural Touch Semi Weighted 61-note keyboard. The large color TouchView 8” display delivers easy operating with tones and settings.
The 9 famous Korg engines include:
SGX-1 (premium piano) offering German D piano and Japanese C model sampled at 8 velocity levels for each key reproducing every resonance nuance, subtle mechanical noise of pressed keys or a released damper pedal;
EP-1 (MDS Electric Piano) recreating six most popular electric pianos featuring the Multi-Dimensional Synthesis technology which presents a stunning dynamic range, smoothes out the transition between sample velocities making the looped samples behave natural;
CX-3 (Tonewheel Organ) modeling the Korg’s classic instrument and reproducing the vacuum tube amp, vibrato/chorus effects as well as a rotary speaker replicating the instability and noise of the tonewheels;
HD-1 (High Definition Synthesizer) offering superior sound quality, low-aliasing sample playback oscillators, full‐bandwidth multimode resonant filters, quick running polished envelopes and LFOs, wave sequencing feature and Ambient Drums;
MS-20EX (Legacy Analog Collection) representing an analog modeling sound engine reproducing that dense sound with expressive filters while extending the number of patch panel functions and rendering the whole MS-20 legacy in polyphony;
PolysixEX (Legacy Analog Collection) representing another analog modeling sound engine reproducing the self-oscillating 4-pole filter, analog oscillator + sub, and a specific chorus/ensemble effect together with the classic arpeggiator;
AL-1 (Analog Synthesizer) reviving the premium analog modeling sound engine from Korg OASYS;
MOD-7 (Waveshaping VPM Synthesizer) allowing for combining of variable phase modulation, waveshaping, ring modulation, samples, and subtractive synthesis using the impressive sampling manipulation and the possibility of DX synths sounds import;
STR-1 (Plucked Strings) featuring a physical modeling sound engine which lets you create unprecedented tones produced by nonexistent instruments – you can pick any environment, part and mode making a surprising hybrid out of it.
