Korg Vice President, International Sales & Marketing, John McCubbery hinted at the name saying that it starts with the letter “P” and adding that it came to his mind after a glass of red wine – which doesn’t seem to help with guessing. The team of engineers who are developing the new product are people who created monologue and minilogue units. According to the Korg’s representative they’re working on something which will “blow people’s minds”, is “full of engineering craziness”, and occupies a “whole new area”. And not only its starts with “P”, it actually has 8 letters.
The month of October brought in some new info – 8 characters include numbers. And again the new instrument was claimed to be a “fantastic and very clever product”.
So what may “P” stand for? Does it have something to do with that wine or does it simply mean polyphony? It’s familiar but striking – is it a smashing update or a complete revival? There were many instruments made by Korg and starting with “P” – Prophecy, Poly, Pa series. Or is it an attempt to make some other brand’s cult machine resurface? NAMM 2018 let you know in January.
