Studiologic Music SL88 Grand was released in 2016. Unlike its counterpart, SL88 Grand acquired another "TP/40WOOD Ivory Feel" keybed. SL88 Grand includes an 88-note weighted keyboard, and an aftertouch that will create the feel of playing an authentic piano. The instrument is enclosed within a black matte housing with plastic sides.
SL88 Studio has a minimalistic appearance: a small central console with TFT-display, one encoder, and 3 neat little performance joysticks on the left side. In the era of MIDI controllers, which are covered with as many faders, knobs, pads as possible, SL88 refreshes the overall looks.
The rear panel offers 2 MIDI outputs, MIDI input, USB for computer, and 4 inputs for pedals. The 4 pedals have several different inputs: 1 and 2 represent the input switch (on/off, as sustain), the 3rd one – for an expression pedal, and finally the 4th one is multifunctional.
The synthesizer also comes with accessories that are attached to the back along the magnetic rail.
Each of the 3 joysticks has slightly different options: the first X/Y one always returns automatically into the center position. The second one is just an X, and the 3rd one floats freely within two dimensions. They are all fully assignable, but by default they represent the controls for pitch, modulation, and cutoff frequency.
SL88 Studio comes with 4 separate zone parameters, each of which is displayed on the bright-colored display. Each zone can have many editable parameters of different sources (separate MIDI or USB outputs), joystick and pedal settings, key responsiveness, MIDI channels, etc.
