Roland SC-55 (Sound Canvas) is a GS standard sound module, released in 1991. The SC-55 was the first module to support the new GM standard and its GS extension developed by Roland.
The device has a 24-voice polyphony and 16-part multitimbrality, supports reverb and chorus effects. Other effects which come with the GS standard are also supported. The instruments are represented with 317 patches, including drum sounds and a set of special effects.
SC-55 is a compact size module with a large screen, which displays information about all selected instruments, effects and the parameters. The contrast of the display can be adjusted. The rear panel features a basic connectivity range: MIDI IN, MIDI OUT and MIDI-THRU, as well as a pair of audio inputs and RCA audio outputs. On the front panel there is a volume control, an output to the headphones and an additional MIDI input. There is a remote control in the kit.
A user-friendly interface allows you to quickly access all the necessary settings of the sound module. The SC-55 is ideal for use on stage, as well as for home music making. Practically all functions can be used remotely, without touching the controls on the device itself, assigning instead the necessary controls via your MIDI keyboard. For example, you can adjust the volume of the tracks, the depth of the chorus or the reverb during the performance. There are demonstration songs recorded in the memory, listening to which, you can evaluate the capabilities of this device.
