USB-controller Traktor Kontrol F1 made by Native Instruments came out in 2012. It is designed in the same form X1 is. The surface of the machine is divided into 3 main sections. At the top there are filter knobs and volume controls for each of the 4 slots with samples. In the lower section you can see a matrix of multi-colored buttons (4x4), which serve for playing samples. These buttons also perform a dual function when selecting parameter values, such as: slots characteristics, sample color, and quantization level.
The central part of F1 offers expanded functions. All mode buttons have both primary and secondary functions. It is highly recommended to familiarize yourself with the user manual for the first applications of the controller, because the device has mixed settings.
For example, if you want to distinguish a sample from a loop and a one-shot, you need to know that in loopback mode, the loops are green, and the one-shots are blue. Seven-segment LCD was taken from S4, and it provides feedback of 2 characters when editing samples, but otherwise it’s bright enough and clear while displaying cycle time, quantization resolution and so on.
