Studio 440 is a further development of the idea first implemented in Prophet 2000. The wide possibilities allow Studio 440 to remain a relevant instrument today, with only a few limitations: a small amount of built-in memory (512 KB) and low resolution (12 bits).
Eight velocity sensitive pads provide access to 32 samples, grouped into four sets and four banks. Each sound has two sets of adjustment options, including the playback direction, pitch, loop type, start of the loop and VCA settings, VCF.
Four programmable sets have performance settings. The parameters can be assigned to one of eight pads. These settings are available for editing on the go; besides, the settings for each pad can be instantly retriggered from any set. And since the parameters can have an individual start and end point of playback it means that Studio 440 provides simultaneous access to 64 different sounds!
An additional "highlight" of the instrument is the presence of analog VCA and VCF. Eight voltage-controlled low-pass filters (LP VCF) have independent tuning of the cutoff frequency and the modulation depth from ADSR envelope generators. The non-resonant filter has a four-stage structure with a cutoff slope of 24 dB per octave.
Built-in sequencer has a capacity of 50,000 notes, and a "swing" function (50-70%) is also available. In addition, the programmed sequences can be routed to MIDI output which allows Studio 440 to control external devices.
