Superbooth 17: Winter Modular Eloquencer

Superbooth 17: Winter Modular Eloquencer

Superbooth 17 held in Berlin has introduced us to many innovative products – Eloquencer, a new sequencer by Winter Modular, is among them. The developers put it as an 8-track 'Controlled Chance' step sequencer for Eurorack modular synthesizers.

Winter Modular demonstrated its new sequencer Eloquencer at Superbooth 17 - an 8-track 'Controlled Chance' step sequencer for Eurorack modular synthesizers.

The system drives the concept of Controlled Chance which embraces a very interesting approach – it can randomize parameters in multiple ways making the patterns constantly evolve. You can apply randomization to a pattern or adjust the probability function for each step/track: you’re free to control CV, gate, gate length, ratcheting in any possible way. The sequencer offers 8 tracks and 16 steps though patterns can be chained forming lines up to 256 steps.

OLED display provides clear comprehensible navigation through the menu showing all the detailed parameters.

Peculiar features of Eloquencer:

  • Gate probability independent for each step.
  • CV, CV Probability, and CV Probability Range adjustable for each step or track.
  • Gate Length, Gate Probability, and Gate Probability Range adjustable for each step or track.
  • Ratcheting Type, Ratcheting Type probability, and Ratcheting Type Range adjustable for each step or track.
  • Tempo and shuffle adjustment.
  • Tone/scale quantizable CV outputs.
  • Different step modes independent for each track and pattern.
  • Pattern length independent for each track and pattern.
  • Track switch independent for each track or a group of tracks.
  • Fill in mode (press the track button to increase a desired amount of probability of any of the parameters).
  • Quantized Live recording (CVs and Gates).
  • Playback mode.
  • Song Mode (up to 64 songs - 16 patterns each).
  • LFO and Mod modes are unavailable in this operating system version.
  • Mute Mode.
  • Random function (to create new patterns or alter existing ones).
  • Assignable CV outputs (Step, probabilities, Mute, Fill in, track shift...).
  • Functions (Freeze and Revert) capturing the current patterns with the further possibility to bring it back and make some changes.
  • Master track concept (can be a track or an internal clock – it can be configured between 1 and 64 steps) – the pattern changes or the synchronization/resetting of tracks occurs when the master track reaches its end.
  • Integrated microSD card reader (saves and backs up your projects).
  • Release Reset track – you can release some track from its dependence on the master track (it won’t reset everytime the master track reach its end).
  • Open Source - the program can be modified using the Arduino IDE and a USB cable.

Inputs and Outputs

  • 8 V/oct CV output
  • 8 Trigger / Gate output
  • Reset input
  • External Clock input (configurable, it can be used as a clock divider/multiplier)
  • Aux output (user configurable)
  • Clock output (configurable, can be used as a clock divider/multiplier)
  • 2 CV input (assignable to different parameters)

The new product priced at €550 will be available in May 2017.
