OB-X Neo, who are you?

OB-X Neo, who are you?

OB-X Neo is a tricky creature. The teaser tells us no more than a leaked picture of it. Is this a clone made by some indie brand? Or is it Behringer who decided to mock us with a number of seemingly similar features and a “deep sea” hint purposely displayed on the screen? Or does Oberheim himself have something to do with it?

The picture shows 2 ADSR envelopes, 1 LFO, 2 oscillators (sync, pwm featured), 8 voices, osc1 filter mod, LED encoders. It also sports an Oberheim logo and a puzzling “2 x 8 voice” line under the name of the module. The Brain section offers part 1 and part 2 alluding to duotimbrality. But we don’t even know whether it’s a software or hardware tool.

March 2017 there were news pieces spreading all over about Behringer willing to reissue OB-Xa. And those LEDs make us think it might be Uli who’s trying to stir up some suspense. And why would he if it was just some kind of a virtual tool? Doesn’t feel like a clever marketing turn. And we remember Behringer registering OB-X and Oberheim as trademarks not long ago. Teaser can't trigger more excitement than the official preview. Hope you'll be nicely surprised.
