NAMM 18 is to present Arturia MiniBrute 2. A semi-modular analog monophonic synthesizer is based on dual oscillators and dual LFOs. There’s a Steiner-Parker type of a filter integrated and an arp/seq installed onboard. You can also enjoy the extensive patchbay featuring 48 points.
What’s new? In comparison to the MiniBrute original version the announced instrument is claimed to have more powerful synthesis and more modulation functions. Besides, the synthesizer got a full-size keyboard (as well as its predecessor) and more prestigious DrumBrute style looks.
The developers guarantee the quality of the analog, simple work with step sequencer, variety of arpeggios and a large patchbay. Each parameter is quickly accessible via front panel controls. The keyboard supports aftertouch routable via mod matrix which offers multiple destinations and sources while you’re free to connect the synth to external gear as well and receive more options for control.
The velocity sensitive keys are full size. There’s also such a detail as Link compatibility. Not so much information about this spec though.
Arturia MiniBrute 2 is to be available in February at a price of $649. No doubt the new instrument is a worthy one, though it's still not entirely clear how successfully it will compete with the recently introduced KORG Monologue (twice cheaper), Novation Circuit Mono Station ($100 cheaper) or Pioneer DJ Toraiz AS- 1 ($100 less expensive). Apparently, the French manufacturer counts on expanded functionality, in comparison with the first version, and on a full-size keyboard.
Arturia has also introduced a keyboardless version with the addition of an advanced sequencer. MiniBrute 2S offers a "triple-layered" step sequencer. The sequencer has always been one of the most convincing parts of the company's products, now the most powerful component goes in the same package with impressive patching capabilities and Eurorack format support. The analog sound engine is taken fom MiniBrute 2, but the module attracts attention with an improved sequencer and multi-mode arpeggiator. Instead of a keyboard, MiniBrute 2S offers velocity sensitive pads.
MiniBrute 2S will be available in March priced at $649.
Arturia has also announced RackBrute 3U & RackBrute 6U - Eurorack cases for its new MiniBrute 2 and MiniBrute 2S instruments. The company took care of a convenient way of using and transporting its own synthesizers and offered EcoSystem demonstrating the ergonomics of a folding design ready to turn the modules into a compact portable system. Metal housing and connectors allow you to install instruments in a best possible way. Cases are available in two versions - 3U, 88HP ($299) and 6U 176HP ($279). The special power supply offers 1600mA + 12V, 1600mA-12V, and 900mA + 5V outputs.
RackBrute will be available in March, details on the official website.
Arturia Link system is not patented and can be used by other manufacturers.
