Tristram Cary (1925–2008) was a British composer, engineer, and co-founder of EMS who bridged classical composition, radiophonic art, and commercial synthesizer manufacturing.

A pioneer of electronic music in Britain, Cary established one of the country's first private electronic music studios in the 1960s and co-founded EMS with Peter Zinovieff and David Cockrell. He contributed to the Synthi A and Synthi AKS — compact EMS instruments used in education, television, and experimental music.

Cary composed the electronic music for the film "Quatermass and the Pit" and contributed to Doctor Who at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. His dual role as composer and engineer influenced EMS designs toward musically expressive, if unconventional, control interfaces.

His legacy connects the academic tradition of British electronic music with the commercial success of EMS instruments that reached rock and progressive musicians worldwide.
