Philip Dodd was an engineer at ARP Instruments during the company's ambitious expansion into ensemble keyboards and guitar-synthesizer hybrids in the late 1970s.

Dodd contributed to the ARP Quadra, a four-instrument keyboard combining bass, lead, string, and brass sections under one controller — ARP's attempt to dominate the live-performance market with an all-in-one solution. He also worked on the ARP Avatar, a guitar-controlled synthesizer module that translated guitar playing into synthesizer voices.

Both products reflected ARP's strategy of addressing working musicians with integrated systems, though the company's financial pressures ultimately limited their commercial success. Dodd's work nonetheless represents an inventive period in ARP's history before its 1981 closure.
