Nobuaki Kato

Nobuaki Kato is a Roland engineer associated with the company's early drum machines and monophonic synthesizers that accompanied the TR-series rhythm composers in home studios and small bands.

Kato worked on the TR-606 Drumatix, a compact companion drum machine designed to pair with the TB-303 Bass Line for portable, battery-powered electronic rigs. He also contributed to the MC-202 MicroComposer, a monophonic synthesizer with an onboard sequencer that gave musicians a self-contained tool for basslines and leads.

These instruments formed Roland's "Composer" ecosystem of the early 1980s — affordable, interlocking devices that prefigured the groovebox concept and influenced bedroom producers decades before laptop music production.

Notable products: Roland TR-606, MC-202.
