Ned Sinico was an engineer at E-mu Systems who contributed to the company's expansion from samplers into dedicated drum machines and keyboard samplers during the mid-1980s.

Sinico worked on the SP-12, a sampling drum machine that preceded the SP-1200 and established E-mu's presence in the beat-production market. He also contributed to the Emax, a keyboard sampler that offered Emulator-class sampling in a more affordable, keyboard-integrated package.

These instruments bridged E-mu's studio-oriented Emulator line with the performance and production tools that hip-hop and dance producers adopted in home and project studios.
