In 1985 at the music fair in Milan Prophet 2000 was introduced - the first sampler made by SCI. Compared to its predecessors (E-mu Emulator and Ensoniq Mirage), the synthesizer got the sample rate almost twice bigger (12 bits versus 8) and offered quite a low cost.
Prophet 2000 is an 8-voice digital keyboard sampler. The most attracting peculiarity of the synthesizer is in its analog path based on CEM3379 per each voice:
A voltage controlled low-pass filter (LP VCF) with a four-stage structure (4 poles) with a slope of 24 dB per octave. Adjustment of cutoff frequency, resonance and modulation depth is provided.
Voltage controlled amplifier (VCA).
To control the VCF and VCA independent ADSR envelope generators are provided.
The sound of Sequential Circuits Prophet 2000 can be heard in Depeche Mode, D: ream, Hardfloor, Information Society, Mark Isham, John Carpenter records.
