In 1978 in order to consolidate the company’s position on the market Sequential Circuits released Prophet-10. Basically the synthesizer is two combined Prophet-5 units. The architecture of the synthesizer is not changed at all, the only difference is in the smaller number of presets, since each preset should contain settings for two synthesizers at once.

The first version of Prophet-10 had a 61-note keyboard. The batch of the synthesizers of this revision was withdrawn due to frequent failure, i.e. overheating of electronics.

Later (versions 2 and 3) the synthesizer got two keyboards and the total number of keys became 122. The VCOs, built on SSM chips, were replaced by CEM in the third revision.

The sound of Prophet-10 can be heard in the works of Tony Banks, Gas Chamber Orchestra, Geoff Downes, The Who, Tommy Eyre, Brian Gascoin, The Human League, The Moog Cookbook, Jeff Lorber, Wim Mertens, The Orb, KMFDM, Optical, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, Rick Wakeman, Vangelis.
