Roland EXR-7 was released in 2004, and is the older model of the "EXR" series. The instrument includes a 76-note keyboard with improved mechanics, methods of split and sound layering, and 64-voice polyphony. The sample library consists of 510 patches (together with 542 patches in XG format and 256 patches in GM2), 20 drum kits, 100 user patches. All sounds have processing capabilities: adding 8 varieties of reverb effects, 8 kinds of chorus, and 47 multi-effects algorithms. The Auto Accompaniment section has 84 preset and 19 custom styles.

EXR-7 has a 16-track sequencer, standard MIDI player, a metronome with the ability to change the volume, a small 1.5 MB memory for storing styles and MIDI files, a harmonizer, transpose and octave shift functions, and an outstanding V-Link technology for operating with video.

The "Cover" function, which was also introduced into its predecessors, allows you to change arrangement of songs and MIDI files in 5 variants: acoustics, rock, pop, dance, ethnic. Thanks to the "Music Assistant" function, you can select presets for 126 popular songs.
A liquid crystal display with backlight shows the most necessary information. Among other things, EXR-7 has a volume control, 74 switches, a pitch/mod joystick, an infrared D-Beam controller, a floppy disk drive for storing songs, styles and user patches, a USB port for file sharing with a computer, a MIDI input and MIDI-out, two outputs (jacks), two headphone jacks on the front panel, a connector for the assignable footswitch and two speakers.
